SEOUL, June 2 (Reuters) - LG Electronics Inc (066570.KS) denied a local media report on Monday that Sweden's Electrolux (ELUXb.ST) had invited the South Korean electronics maker to bid jointly with it for General Electric Co's (GE.N) appliances unit.

The Korea Economic Daily had reported that LG Electronics was mulling the proposal from Electrolux, the world's No. 2 home appliance maker, citing unnamed industry sources.

"We have not been approached by Electrolux," said Judy Pae, an LG spokeswoman.

Last month, GE Chief Executive Jeff Immelt named five non-U.S. appliance manufacturers, including China's Haier (1169.HK), LG Electronics, Electrolux, Mexico's Controladora Mabe and Turkey's Arcelik (ARCLK.IS), as potential bidders for its century-old appliances business.

Shares in LG Electronics fell 0.7 percent to 142,000 won as of 0047 GMT, in line with a 0.8 percent fall in the broader market . (Reporting by Rhee So-eui and Cheon Jong-woo; Editing by Keiron Henderson)
