Samsung Elec mulling options regarding SanDisk

SEOUL, Sept 5 (Reuters) - Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (005930.KS) said on Friday it was considering "various opportunities" regarding SanDisk (SNDK.O), in response to reports it was interested in bidding for the flash memory maker.

"We are looking at various opportunities regarding SanDisk, but nothing has been decided yet," James Chung, a spokesman for Samsung, told Reuters.

Online news provider eDaily earlier Friday said Samsung, the world's top maker of memory chips, was interested in acquiring SanDisk, who shares have tumbled amid a steep downturn in the memory market, and had retained JPMorgan as an advisor.
