Samsung Elec says still looking for M&A targets

SEOUL, Jan 23 (Reuters) - Samsung Electronics Co (005930.KS) remains interested in mergers and acquisitions for growth in various business areas, despite the current economic downturn, an executive said on Friday.

"We have been looking for growth via mergers and acquisitions since two years ago," Robert Yi, vice president of Samsung Electronics' vice president of investor relations team, told a news conference after quarterly results.

"That has not been changed. We are studying mergers and acquisitions in various areas."
