The move by the country's No.2 auto maker union follows a call by unions at Kia affiliate Hyundai Motor Co (005380.KS) for upcoming four-hour strikes on the same day.

"We want the company to join ongoing wage talks with an umbrella union", Song Ho-chang, a union spokesman, told Reuters by telephone.

Meanwhile, Ssangyong Motor Co (003620.KS) announced a halt in car production, because of a partial strike for two hours, according to a filing with the Korea Exchange.

Shares in Kia were down 2.7 percent at 10,800 won, compared to a 0.44 percent fall in the overall market as of 0223 GMT.
