Stock Market Update - Mon Jun 11 15:30:01 EDT 2007

Mon Jun 11, 2007 3:30pm EDT

[BRIEFING.COM] More of the same for stocks as the indices sport modest gains going into the close. Unfortunately for the bulls, Utilities continues to turn in the best performance, which is noteworthy in the face of rising interest rates but also underscores a more risk averse market looking for defensive-oriented names.

The Financials sector remains the bigger story from a leadership standpoint; but it remains to be seen if its 0.7% advance amid below average volume will be enough to carry such minimal intraday gains other heavily weighted sectors like Technology and Health Care. The NYSE has finally surpassed 1.0 bln shares.
