Diamondbacks' Webb gets win No.7
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Brandon Webb earned his Major League-leading seventh win of the season by pitching the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 10-4 home win over the New York Mets on Saturday.
Augie Ojeda drove in a career-high six runs for the Diamondbacks, who have MLB's best record at 21-9.
Ojeda only got the start because regular second baseman Orlando Hudson was injured.
"It's the toughest thing in baseball, I think," Ojeda told reporters when asked about his role as a bench player.
"Your timing is not there. You can hit in the cages, work every day on your swing, but it's not the same as actually seeing a guy throw 94-95 (mph), split-fingers and all that stuff."
Webb said Ojeda was the difference in the game.
"Six RBIs, that's incredible for anybody," Webb (7-0) told reporters. "And for him not to have as many at-bats as what most of the hitters do, it's incredible what he did."
Webb matched Randy Johnson for the best start by a Diamondbacks pitcher. Johnson opened at 7-0 in 2000.
After Ojeda's two-run double in the fifth put Arizona up 5-1 Carlos Delgado smacked a three-run homer in the next inning to get New York back in the game.
However, the Diamondbacks scored five times in the eighth to run out comfortable winners.
Mets starter Mike Pelfrey (2-2) took the loss.
