SINGAPORE (Reuters) - The United States Geological Survey said on Wednesday the 7.9 magnitude earthquake that struck near Indonesia's Sumatra occurred at a depth of 30 km (18.6 miles). In its latest report, USGS said the quake's epicenter was 130 km (80 miles) southwest of Bengkulu on Sumatra and 620 km (385 miles) west northwest of the capital Jakarta. It gave the time of the quake as 6:10 p.m.

Initially USGS gave a slightly different location and magnitude for the quake, causing some confusion as to the number of quakes.

The quake triggered tsunami warnings across the region, officials said.
