Lincecum blanks Athletics in Giants' 1-0 victory
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - San Francisco pitcher Tim Lincecum tossed seven stellar innings, striking out 11 to steer the San Francisco Giants to a 1-0 road victory over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday.
Lincecum (9-1) allowed just five hits and lowered his ERA to 2.38, good enough for second best in the National League going into Saturday. It was the third time this season he's amassed 10 or more strikeouts in a game.
Left fielder Fred Lewis scored the game's only run in the fourth inning thanks to an error by Oakland first baseman Daric Barton, who misplayed a ball off the bat of Randy Winn.
The Giants managed just two hits in the game, marking the first time they have won a road game with only two hits since 1974.
San Francisco reliever Tyler Walker allowed two leadoff hits in the eighth inning before recording three successive outs. Brian Wilson pitched the ninth and picked up his 22nd save of the season.
Athletics starter Justin Duchscherer (8-5) threw eight quality innings, striking out four and walking just one in the loss. He lowered his own major-league leading ERA to 1.91 in the effort. Oakland catcher Kurt Suzuki was 3-for-4.
San Francisco (35-46) had lost 10 of their last 11 against their Bay Area rivals before the victory. The Athletics fell to 44-36 in the loss.
