Carpentier wins first NASCAR Sprint Cup pole
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Rookie driver Patrick Carpentier won his first NASCAR Sprint Pole on Friday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Carpentier, of Quebec, had to endure a two-hour rain delay before posting a fast lap of 129.776 miles per hour in qualifying for Sunday's Lenox Industrial Tools 301.
"It's amazing," Carpentier told reporters. "The car just rotated beautifully through the middle of the corner. Our Dodge was just stuck on the track."
Bobby Labonte took the second spot with a lap of 129.059 mph, followed by Kevin Harvick, Scott Riggs and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Carpentier will be making his 17th career Sprint Cup Series start.
