The two sides agreed to a five-year deal worth $35 million, the New York Post reported, with two additional years tacked on to the three remaining on Burress's existing contract.

"Plax has been outstanding for us," Giants General Manager Jerry Reese told reporters.

"We're excited and happy and we're ready to move forward into this new season."

Burress recorded a team-high 70 receptions for 1,025 yards in 2007, where he also caught the game-winning touchdown in the Super Bowl despite playing with an ankle injury.

The 6ft 5ins (1.96 meter) wideout got off on the right foot on Thursday, catching a career-high 10 passes for 133 yards in New York's season-opening 16-7 win over the Washington Redskins.
