CANBERRA, Aug 27 (Reuters) - Australia's prime minister said on Wednesday his government did not intend to backtrack on a planned $2.1 billion tax on oil and gas condensate, despite anger among major resource firms such as Woodside Petroleum (WPL.AX).

"No one likes getting a tax when they haven't had one before. That's just the reality. But we don't intend to shirk from this," Rudd told the National Press Club, adding that taxpayers deserved a return on decades of LNG industry tax exemptions.
