SYDNEY, Jan 31 (Reuters) - Origin Energy Ltd (ORG.AX), Australia's second-largest power retailer, said on Thursday its second-quarter oil and gas production rose 2.2 percent from a year ago.

However, total production of 23.3 petajoules equivalent for the quarter ended December was 2.5 percent lower than the previous quarter due to natural field decline at its Cooper Basin field in South Australia, Sydney-based Origin said in a statement.

Revenue in the quarter was A$125.9 million ($112.4 million), down 2.8 percent from the last quarter.

Origin is Australia's only vertically-integrated energy company with oil and gas production assets accounting for about a quarter of its revenues, which have helped to offset tighter margins in its traditional retail energy business. ($1=A$1.12) (Reporting by Fayen Wong)
