PNG Ramu nickel mine work resumes after dispute
SYDNEY |
SYDNEY May 15 (Reuters) - Construction work on Papua New Guinea's Ramu nickel mine and processing plant has resumed, with the project on schedule to start in late 2009, part-owner Highlands Pacific Ltd (HIG.AX) said on Friday.
Construction was halted a week ago after violence erupted among workers and villagers angry over an industrial accident involving an employee at the remote site.
Some 70 local employees and villagers involved in the fighting have handed themselves into the local police station in Madang, Highlands said in a statement.
