TOKYO, Dec 10 (Reuters) - Japan's Square Enix Holdings Co Ltd (9684.T) will develop the next version of its blockbuster "Dragon Quest" game series for Nintendo Co Ltd's (7974.OS) Wii game console, aiming to expand the fantasy game's fan base.

The launch date and selling price for Dragon Quest X (Ten) has yet to be set, said the game software maker, also known for its "Final Fantasy" game series.

The game, which until now has been designed for Nintendo's DS handheld gear, sold more than 47 million units as of the end of September.

Square Enix plans to launch Dragon Quest IX on March 28 in Japan for 5,980 yen ($64.73) for the DS handheld gear, but officials declined to disclose an overseas launch date or price. ($1=92.38 Yen) (Reporting by Kiyoshi Takenaka; Editing by Michael Watson)
