Canon keeps top place in U.S. digicam market -IDC

TOKYO, Nov 16 (Reuters) - Canon Inc. (7751.T) won the biggest market share in digital camera shipments in the United States in the three months to September, keeping its top position for the third straight quarter, researcher IDC said on Thursday.

Tokyo-based Canon expanded its shipments in the quarter by 14 percent to 6.8 million units, accounting for 19 percent of the total U.S. market. Sony Corp. (6758.T), another Japanese maker, was No. 2 with a 15 percent market share.

Eastman Kodak (EK.N), the only U.S. company in the top five digital camera makers, ranked third with 13 percent, down from a 15 percent share it had in the second quarter, IDC said. Japan's Nikon (7731.T) came in No. 4 with an 11 percent share, slightly ahead of South Korea's Samsung Electronics (005930.KS).
