Sharp and Toshiba to brief on LCD alliance

TOKYO, Dec 21 (Reuters) - Sharp Corp (6753.T) and Toshiba Corp (6502.T) said they would hold a news conference on a tie-up in the liquid crystal display (LCD) business later on Friday at 0930 GMT.

The Nikkei business daily reported earlier that Toshiba would likely procure LCD panels from a new factory that Sharp is building in Osaka prefecture, and that the two would deepen ties in image-processing chips.

Sharp President Mikio Katayama and Toshiba President Atsutoshi Nishida will attend the news conference in Tokyo. (Reporting by Nathan Layne)
