Fire at Japanese nuclear plant, no radiation leak
TOKYO, Nov 13 (Reuters) - A fire broke out on Thursday at a nuclear power plant in northern Japan, but it was quickly extinguished and there was no danger of a radiation leak, a spokesman for plant operator Tohoku Electric Power Co (9506.T) said. The fire broke out at around 2 p.m. (0500 GMT) at the plant's No.1 unit, which was not in operation due to regular maintenance, spokesman Mitsuhiro Takauchi said.
One person was injured in the fire, which was extinguished about 50 minutes later, he said.
Tohoku's Onagawa plant in Miyagi prefecture has three units with a combined capacity of 2,174 megawatts.
The 524-megawatt Onagawa No.1 nuclear generator was been shut for planned maintenance since Feb. 14, 2008, while two other units are operating. (Reporting by Yoko Kubota, James Topham; writing by Miho Yoshikawa)
