Nikkei down after break above 10,000, steel strong
TOKYO, June 11 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei stock average edged down 0.3 percent on Thursday after climbing above 10,000 to an eight-month high, as worries about rising U.S. interest rates offset gains made by steel shares on a brokerage upgrade. Nippon Steel Corp (5401.T) surged more than 5 percent after Morgan Stanley lifted its rating on the sector to "attractive" from "in-line," saying it was time to shift to an aggressive investment stance as uncertainties surrounding the industry have started to be resolved.
The benchmark Nikkei .N225 lost 29.52 points to 9,961.97 after rising as far as 10,022.23, its highest since October 7. The broader Topix lost 0.1 percent to 936.54. (Reporting by Elaine Lies)
