ADB/TAKEALOOK

Tue May 8, 2007 10:56pm EDT
Asian financial leaders gathered in Kyoto, western Japan, on
Monday for the final day of the Asian Development Bank's annual
meeting.
Governors of the Manila-based agency have challenged it to
keep its focus on reducing still pervasive poverty even while
praising its efforts to make strong regional growth more
environmentally friendly.
On the sidelines of the ADB meeting, finance ministers from
the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) plus China,
Japan and South Korea agreed to pool foreign reserves to help
avoid a repeat of the financial crisis that gripped the region a
decade ago.
