Nikkei opens up 1.1 pct on Wall St, softer yen

TOKYO, Oct 2 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei average opened 1.1 percent higher on Tuesday, going above 17,000 for the first time since Aug. 9 as a rally on Wall Street and a softer yen pushed up exporters such as Sony Corp (6758.T).

As of 0001 GMT, the benchmark Nikkei .N225 was up 181.96 points at 17,027.92 The broader TOPIX index was up 1.1 percent at 1,633.55.
