TOKYO, Sept 26 (Reuters) - Japan's top oil and gas explorer Inpex Holdings Inc (1605.T) said on Friday the start of liquefied natural gas (LNG) production from the Ichthys LNG project in northwest Australia may be delayed to 2014 or 2015.

Inpex had previously aimed to start output by the first half of 2014. The company also said it selected the Australian city of Darwin and surrounding areas as the site for the LNG processing plant, and that the total project investment was expected to top $20 billion.
