NEC plans to make handsets for non-DoCoMo carrier

TOKYO, May 14 (Reuters) - Japan's NEC Corp (6701.T) said on Thursday it planned to make handsets for carriers other than NTT DoCoMo Inc (9437.T) as it aims to raise its handset shipments by 45 percent this year.

"It will take some time before we ship handsets to KDDI Corp (9433.T)," Senior Vice President Takao Ono said in response to questions from reporters on whether NEC was supplying handsets to No. 3 carrier Softbank Corp (9984.T). (Reporting by Mayumi Negishi)
