Hitachi: Hard disk unit had $286 mln loss Jan-Dec

TOKYO, Feb 5 (Reuters) - Japan's Hitachi Ltd (6501.T) reported on Tuesday a $286 million loss in its hard disk drive business for the 12 months through December.

But the company also said it had $95 million profit in that business for the October-December quarter.

Hitachi, weighed down by losses on its hard drives and flat TVs, has been trying to streamline its sprawling business, which includes flat TVs, hard disk drives, nuclear plants, excavators and washing machines. (Reporting by Mayumi Negishi)
