Nikkei pares gains after North Korea nuclear test

TOKYO, May 25 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei share average trimmed gains on Monday after North Korea said it had successfully conducted a nuclear test.

"We have successfully conducted another nuclear test on May 25 as part of the republic's measures to strengthen its nuclear deterrent," the North's official KCNA news agency said. [ID:nSEL000621]

The benchmark Nikkei .N225 was up 0.7 percent at 9,289.29, after ending morning trade up 1.1 percent.

The broader Topix was up 0.5 percent at 879.87, after a 0.9 percent rise in the morning.

Nikkei futures in Osaka JNIc1 also trimmed earlier gains to 9,280. (Reporting by Aiko Hayashi)
