G8 encourages US, Europe bank stress tests-Canada

OTTAWA, June 9 (Reuters) - The Group of Eight leading financial powers has encouraged stress tests for U.S. and European banks, Canadian Finance Minister Jim Flaherty told reporters on Tuesday.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday that Washington wants European countries to put their banks through more rigorous public stress tests and would raise the idea with G8 finance ministers at a meeting this week.
