CANADA STOCKS-TSX makes late-day strides as financials rise

TORONTO, July 13 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock index accelerated gains late in the session to push 1 percent higher, led by strength in financials.

Stocks

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was up 97.74 points, or 1 percent, at 9,844.87. Earlier in the day, the index fell more than 1 percent.

Eight of the index's 10 main groups were higher, led by a 2.3 percent rise in the heavyweight financials sector. (Reporting by Ka Yan Ng; editing by Peter Galloway)
