NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - Summit Entertainment plans a fall 2009 release date for "Astro Boy," its computer-generated revival of the 1950s Japanese animation character.

The studio has set October 23 as its opening date for the pic, taking a page from fall animated releases like Exodus/The Weinstein Company's "Igor," which opened to $8 million this past weekend.

Nicolas Cage and Donald Sutherland lead the voice cast of the David Bowers-directed picture.

Imagi Studios is producing the futuristic "Astro Boy," which centers on the adventures of a robot boy with superhero powers. The character originally was launched as a Japanese manga and enjoyed a revival of sorts with the emergence of that genre; the Cartoon Network has aired episodes of the original Japanese series.
