Australian Hensby leads midway through round in Verona
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Australian Mark Hensby made three birdies on the front nine to grab a one-stroke lead midway through the third round of the Turning Stone Resort Championship in Verona on Saturday.
Hensby was eight under par for the New York tournament, one better than compatriot Robert Allenby and Americans Kyle Thompson, Tag Ridings and Jeff Overton who led for the first two rounds of the $6 million tournament.
Overton, one ahead overnight, lost his grip on the lead with a bogey five at the second hole.
Australian Jason Day and American Charles Howell III were another shot adrift at six under.
Former U.S. PGA champion Davis Love III surged into contention with a six-under 66 that gave him the clubhouse lead at five-under 211.
The second round was completed earlier on Saturday after 23 players were unable to finish on Friday due to bad weather.
