Woods's PGA Tour event moving to Philadelphia in 2010
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Tiger Woods-hosted AT&T National will move from Bethesda, Maryland to suburban Philadelphia in 2010 and 2011, the American world number one said on Thursday.
Congressional Country Club, the venue for the last two years, will stage the event again in 2009 before making way for Aronimink Golf Club.
"Aronimink is an amazing course with a rich history in golf," Woods said in a statement.
"We are thrilled to bring the AT&T National to the local Philadelphia community, knowing that fans can expect the same exciting golf that has quickly become a tournament tradition."
Aronimink hosted the 1962 U.S. PGA Championship, won by Gary Player, and has also held the 2003 Senior PGA Championship and the U.S. amateur in 1977.
Congressional is scheduled to stage the U.S. Open in 2011 and its greens will be renovated in 2010.
The AT&T National, the first event to be hosted by Woods on the PGA Tour, raises money for the Tiger Woods Foundation and pays tribute to men and women serving in the U.S. armed forces.
