Packers sign Rodgers to long term deal
CHICAGO (Reuters) - The Green Bay Packers signed quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a long-term contract extension on Friday.
Exact details were undisclosed but media reports said the deal would keep Rodgers at Green Bay through 2014.
"We try to be proactive in discussions with our players and we felt this was an appropriate time to try to come to an agreement with Aaron," general manager and vice-president Ted Thompson told the team's website (www.packers.com).
Rodgers was handed the starting assignment after Brett Favre retired at the end of last season.
Favre later changed his mind before being traded to the New York Jets.
Green Bay's first-round draft pick in 2005, Rodgers has quickly established himself as a more than adequate successor to the brilliant Favre.
He has guided the Packers to a 4-3 record this season, throwing for 1,668 yards and 12 touchdowns.
