Obama wins presidential vote in Wisconsin

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Barack Obama defeated Republican John McCain in presidential voting on Tuesday in Wisconsin, carrying a Democratic-leaning state that has not backed a Republican for president since Ronald Reagan in 1984, CNN projected.

While the state was considered Democratic-leaning with some chances for McCain to make inroads, pre-election polling showed a strengthening of support for Obama in recent weeks, with his lead growing to double digits.

The victory gave Obama Wisconsin's 10 electoral votes, moving him closer to the 270 needed to win the presidency in the indirect U.S. system of electing a president.
