Barak: Israel wants Gaza truce intact despite raid

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel wants its four-month-old Gaza truce with Hamas maintained, Defense Minister Ehud Barak said on Wednesday, despite having ordered a raid on the territory which drew Palestinian cross-border rocket fire.

"We have no intention of violating the quiet. We have an interest in perpetuating the calm," Barak told reporters, using Israel's terms for the truce brokered by Egypt last June.
