The Russian filmmaker is developing "The Silk Road: The Adventures of Marco Polo," an independently financed feature chronicling the 13th-century Italian trader and explorer.

The tale will be told through the eyes of Polo's prison mate, Rustichello da Pisa. Bodrov will direct based on his treatment of Polo's story.

"Mongol," detailing the early life of Genghis Khan, was nominated for a foreign-language Oscar this year.
