Slugger Holliday heads to Oakland
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - The Oakland Athletics made the biggest trade of the off-season when they acquired slugger Matt Holliday from the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday.
Closer Huston Street, left-handed pitcher Greg Smith and outfielder Carlos Gonzalez moved to the Rockies as part of the deal, the A's said on their official website ( oakland.athletics.mlb.com ).
The 28-year-old Holliday, nicknamed 'Big Daddy', entered the league with the Rockies in 2004 and is a three-times All-Star.
Last season Colorado failed to make the playoffs after finishing third in the National League West, Holliday hitting 25 home runs.
