Capgemini CEO says no major acquisitions in view: paper

PARIS (Reuters) - Cap Gemini (CAPP.PA) Chief Executive Paul Hermelin said the group is not planning any large-scale acquisitions at the moment, in an interview with La Tribune.

Deals

"In periods of economic crisis, cash is a precious advantage which we intend to maintain," he told the paper.

The reshaping of the U.S. market following the takeover of EDS by Hewlett Packard (HPQ.N) could create some opportunities, Hermelin said in an interview with La Tribune.

"Mergers of this size sometimes create opportunities. If demand weakens, with pressure on prices, large accounts will further rationalize their buying, trying to reduce the number of suppliers. That works in favor of big players," Hermelin told the paper.

Asked if he was interested in any assets sold off by Atos Origin (ATOS.PA), Hermelin replied that he did not have a clear vision of what would be sold, but understood that it would be activities that were not performing well.

"In addition, the countries in which we are seeking to strengthen our presence do not correspond exactly to Atos's geographical reach."
