LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Oprah Winfrey's production company has signed a deal to make movies, documentaries and series for cable channel HBO, Harpo Films and HBO said on Tuesday.

U.S.  |  Entertainment  |  Film  |  Television

The move to HBO ends a long relationship with ABC for Winfrey's production company output of uplifting movies including Emmy-award winning "Tuesdays with Morrie" and "Their Eyes Were Watching God," starring Halle Berry.

Kate Forte, president of Harpo Films, said HBO offered a unique blend of format and creativity on television, "and the quality and range of their subjects are extraordinary."

No details of projects in the multiyear exclusive deal were released but the two sides said they could include mini-series, movies, documentaries and series.

Winfrey, 54, was named the most powerful woman in entertainment earlier this month by trade paper The Hollywood Reporter.

HBO is owned by Time Warner Inc, and ABC is owned by The Walt Disney Co.
