World Series champions Philadelphia sign veteran Park
NEW YORK (Reuters) - World Series champions the Philadelphia Phillies agreed to a one-year $2.5 million deal with veteran South Korean pitcher Park Chan-ho, the Major League club said Tuesday.
"In Chan Ho, we've acquired a veteran guy who can pitch in either a starting role or as a reliever," Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said in the news release.
"He will come to spring training and be given every opportunity for a spot in the starting rotation."
Park was 4-4 with a 3.40 ERA and two saves in 54 games for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season.
The 35-year-old right-hander is 117-92 in 15 Major League seasons that has also included stints with the Texas Rangers, San Diego Padres and New York Mets.
"I'm very happy to be a Phillie," Park told MLB.com. "It's an honor to be on a championship team. I was trying to beat them in the playoffs last year, and now I'm trying to help them win another championship."
