NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Kansas City Chiefs have appointed New England Patriots executive Scott Pioli as their general manager, the NFL team said on Tuesday.

Pioli joins the Chiefs after nine seasons with the Patriots, where he most recently served as vice-president of player personnel.

The departure of a key executive from the Patriots, who failed to make the playoffs this year, comes a day after their offensive co-ordinator Josh McDaniels left to become head coach of the Denver Broncos.

During his time in New England, the Patriots won three Super Bowls. Pioli was previously in roles at the New York Jets, Baltimore and Cleveland.
