Carl Landry wounded in Houston shooting

HOUSTON (Reuters) - Houston Rockets forward Carl Landry was shot in the leg on Tuesday and is expected to miss between one and three weeks of play, the NBA team said in a statement.

Landry and a female passenger were driving southeast of downtown Houston at about 2:30 a.m. CDT (0730 GMT) in Landry's sport utility vehicle when it was first sideswiped then struck by another car, said Houston Police Department spokesman Kese Smith.

Two men got out of the car and confronted Landry. One of the men twice fired a gun at the 25-year-old basketball player, Smith said. Landry was briefly chased by the men, but they gave up. Landry's passenger was unhurt.

"Carl was treated and released at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center for a surface wound in his left calf and a dislocated finger on his left hand," Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey said in a statement. "We expect him to make a full recovery and return in one to three weeks," he added.

Landry is in his second season with the Rockets and played in Monday's night win over the New Orleans Hornets. Landry has averaged 9.3 points and 5 rebounds per game.
