SYDNEY (Reuters) - Fiji's President Ratu Josefa Iloilo has announced he has annulled the 1997 constitution, media reports from Suva said on Friday.

The move follows a court decision that the country's military government, appointed by Iloilo after a 2006 coup, was illegal.

The president made the announcement during a televised address to the people of Fiji, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported on its website (www.abc.net.au).

Iloilo also sacked three judges involved in Thursday's court ruling, the ABC said.

The ruling overturned a decision by the country's High Court last year that the president's appointment of military chief Commodore Frank Bainimarama as interim prime minister was legal.

The president is a recognized supporter of Bainimarama.

The FijiLive website (www.fijilive.com) said the Iloilo had also announced that new appointments would be made.
