Six powers reach draft U.N. statement on North Korea

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and Japan have reached an agreement on a draft statement about North Korea's long-range rocket launch last weekend, envoys said on Saturday.

British U.N. Ambassador John Sawers confirmed the agreement after a nearly 2-hour meeting with his counterparts from the United States, France, China, Russia and Japan. U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice said, "We think this text sends a clear message."
