Minnesota Wild coach Lemaire retires
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Minnesota Wild coach Jacques Lemaire, has decided to retire, the team said on Sunday.
"I think it's time for the team, the organization, to get a new coach," Lemaire told the team's website (wild.nhl.com/) after Saturday's 6-3 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
He is expected to announce his retirement officially at a news conference on Monday in St. Paul, Minnesota, the team said.
The 63-year-old became the expansion team's coach when it joined the NHL for the 2000-2001 season. He previously coached Montreal and New Jersey, leading the Devils to the 1995 Stanley Cup.
The Wild posted a 40-33-9 record this season but failed to make the playoffs.
