"Paul Blart" tops DVD charts for 2nd week
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - With no high-profile new releases hitting shelves, "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" remained atop the national home video sales and rental charts for a second consecutive week.
The Kevin James-starring comedy, which grossed $146.3 million in U.S. theaters, continued its strong retail performance, with rental activity falling just 26 percent from the previous week, according to Home Media Magazine market research.
The film retained its top berth on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart for the week ended May 31, as the action thriller "Taken" moved back up to No. 2 and World War II drama "Valkyrie" slipped to No. 3.
The highest-ranking newcomer was the romantic comedy "New in Town," which debuted at No. 4 on the sales chart after grossing $16.7 million in theaters.
"New in Town," which pairs Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick Jr., also debuted at No. 4 on Home Media Magazine's rental chart, behind "Mall Cop," "Taken" and "Valkyrie."
"Taken" took back the top spot on the Nielsen VideoScan Blu-ray Disc chart after spending its sophomore week in stores at No. 2. "Valkyrie," No. 1 the previous week, slipped to No. 2, while "Mall Cop" held steady at No. 3.
James Bond flick "Quantum of Solace" shot back up to No. 4 on the Blu-ray Disc chart, more than two months after its release. Of the film's total disc sales, 35 percent came from the Blu-ray Disc version.
