Nike and USA Track & Field extend sponsorship deal
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Nike Inc and USA Track & Field have extended their sponsorship agreement, the association said on Friday on its website.
The contract with Nike, the world's largest sports shoe and apparel maker, extends its deal through 2013, but the company has an option to renew it through 2017, said USATF Chief Executive Doug Logan. The terms were not disclosed.
Nike has been a team sponsor since 1991 of the national team of the USATF, the governing body for track and field, long distance running and race walking in the United States.
The company outfits all USTF teams in international competitions, including the Olympics.
Logan said the sponsorship deal will establish a fund to help promising athletes in the sport who lack sponsorships by major industry brands.
