Kings land Smyth in trade with Avalanche
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The Los Angeles Kings have acquired veteran left wing Ryan Smyth in a trade with the Colorado Avalanche, the Kings announced on their website (kings.nhl.com) Friday.
The Kings sent defensemen Kyle Quincey, Tom Preissing and a 2010 draft pick in exchange for the 14-year player.
Smyth tied for his team's lead in points (59) last season and was first in assists (33). The 2008-09 campaign also marked the ninth time he recorded at least 20 goals.
"Ryan is the type of player who fits with our team," Kings president and general manager Dean Lombardi said.
"He fills an important need as he is a competitive, gritty scoring left winger, and he fits with the overall identity we continue to build here."
The 33-year-old Smyth has played in 920 regular season games with the Avalanche, New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers while recording 660 points. In 81 career playoff games, he has 52 points.
