Injured Wang placed on disabled list by Yankees

NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York Yankees pitcher Wang Chien-ming has been placed on the 15-day disabled list after straining his right shoulder on Saturday, the team said.

"He's not going to throw until we get back from the All-Star break, (when he'll) start playing catch. That's a couple weeks away, and then we'll go from there," Yankees manager Joe Girardi told Major League Baseball's official website (www.MLB.com) on Sunday.

Baseball's All-Star game is scheduled for July 14 in St. Louis.

Wang, a right-hander from Taiwan, has struggled this season, posting a 1-6 record with a 9.64 earned run average.

He was on the disabled list from April 24 to May 22 with weakness in the abductor muscles of both hips that caused him to miss 26 games, and was just returning to form.
