LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Gary Ross has been brought on board to do a rewrite on "Spider-Man 4."

Film  |  France

Ross joins James Vanderbilt ("Zodiac") and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire on the list of high-profile writers who have been working on the Columbia project, which brings back franchise director Sam Raimi and star Tobey Maguire.

The move also puts Ross back to work with Maguire, with whom he worked on his directorial vehicles "Pleasantville" and "Seabiscuit."

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Randall Wallace has been tapped to rewrite "Captain Nemo: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," Disney's take on the classic Jules Verne character.

"Nemo," being directed by filmmaker McG, aims to explore the origins of Captain Nemo and his submarine warship, the Nautilus. In the 19th-century novel, Nemo is a mysterious but noble protagonist, a scientific genius with a thirst for knowledge and a desire for revenge against the forces of imperialism.

In Verne's lesser-known sequel, "The Mysterious Island," Nemo is revealed as Indian Prince Dakkar, a rajah's son who took part in a failed rebellion and lost his wife and children. It's unclear how close to that back-story Disney will stick, but "Nemo's" tone will be decidedly action-adventure.

Wallace's writing credits range from "Braveheart" to "Atlas Shrugged," and he will direct the racehorse drama "Secretariat," starring Diane Lane.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Relativity Media has optioned an original romantic-comedy screenplay, "The Wedding Doctor," from rookie screenwriter Jonathan Abrams.

"Doctor" follows an anxiety-wracked bride-to-be who gets cold feet three days before her wedding. She secretly hires a relationship analyst known as the Wedding Doctor to ensure that she's marrying the right man. Self-interest takes over, though, when the Wedding Doctor determines that he, in fact, is her ideal man.
