NEW YORK (Reuters) - Philadelphia 76ers guard Lou Williams will be sidelined for eight weeks after having jaw surgery on Thursday, the team said in a news release.

The 23-year-old, Philadelphia's second-highest scorer this season, broke his jaw in Tuesday's 108-107 defeat by the Washington Wizards.

A second-round pick by the 76ers in the 2005 NBA Draft, Williams is averaging 17.4 points and 5.1 assists per game this season.

Teenage rookie Jrue Holiday replaced Williams at point guard for Wednesday's 113-110 loss to the Boston Celtics and is expected to continue in that role for Friday's home game against the Atlanta Hawks.

The 76ers, who have a win-loss record of 5-10 this season, have lost six of their last seven games.
