Assistant coach Tom Barrise was scheduled to lead the team against the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday, the Nets said in a statement. A loss by the Nets would tie the NBA record for the worst start ever.

Frank had a 225-241 record in six-plus seasons with the New Jersey team.

"His dedication to the game as well as his work ethic are to be both admired and appreciated," Nets president Rod Thorn said in a statement.
