Zimbabwe crisis "moment of truth" for Africa leaders: UN

SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt (Reuters) - Zimbabwe's election crisis is a "moment of truth" for African leaders gathered at an African Union summit in Egypt, the deputy secretary-general of the United Nations warned on Monday.

Asha-Rose Migiro, the U.N. deputy secretary-general, said it was regrettable that Zimbabwe's one candidate presidential vote had gone ahead on Friday despite calls for a delay from the United Nations, many Western leaders and some African leaders.

"This is a moment of truth for regional leaders ... the secretary-general urges you excellencies to mobilize support for a negotiated solution," she told African presidents at the opening of the summit in Sharm el-Sheikh.
